The musical In the Heights climbed on stage at the Centro de Bellas Artes Luis A. Ferré, in late November.

Its creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, to the surprise and delight of the audience, made its debut protagonist in the character of Usnavi. The timing could not be a more successful for the audience that longed to meet him personally and enjoy his talent and genius, since his last appearance on Broadway was to early 2009.

De Puerto Rican roots, Miranda was born and raised in Manhattan, place from where his inspiration to write this musical about the daily life of the Latino community of Washington Heights. A community whose characters, through the work and the rhythm of Latin music and Hip Hop, talk about their sacrifices, sorrows, joys and hopes to find opportunities to improve their lives.

The cast of actor-dancer-singers and varied choreography, with some very innovative steps, remain in their seats the audience, wide awake and dancing in almost imperceptible, smooth and rhythmic movements ...

Of course, when Lin-Manuel dance, you'll note that has Latin blood in their veins!




At the end of the work "standing ovation" was immediate. Lin-Manuel, wrapped with the Puerto Rican flag and accompanied by all its cast, expressed appreciation for the great enthusiasm shown in this first feature by their new and some well-known admirers.

As has happened to lovers the classic West Side Story , In the Heights is a musical worthy of more than once enjoyed.
