As I was bored I decided to make a diagram of the IEEE802.11 stack from the point of view of the operating system (Linux).
- For type cards MAC Software , the driver is based on the mac80211 stack the kernel for conversion to 802.3 (ethernet) and management frames . The
- monitor mode or RFMON not the same as the promiscuous mode, if by promiscuous mode reception (and injection) at frame 802.3. Monitor mode to receive calls (and inject) frames complete with the original header 802.11 (and optionally other auxiliary headers as radiotap or prism ).
